Jum Reap Sour - Greeting! My name is Veha, a native Cambodian teacher with experience teaching both English and Khmer. With my degree in teaching, I have a wealth of language teaching experience. In particular, I have been teaching English for nearly 5 years across various language schools in Phnom Penh. As much as I love teaching English, I am also passionate about helping non-Cambodians know how to use my Khmer language, which is often overlooked and underappreciated. I remember talking with expat teachers at my current school, and they kept asking me words in Khmer. Though the Khmer language indeed has very unique ways of pronunciation due to influences from other dialects, and frankly, most couldn't say them correctly in the first place, the fact that they put in efforts learning a few words from me every single day was truly rewarding. This has sparked my curiosity in teaching the language to foreigners. I currently teach 5 students, who are my expat colleagues, about topics that are truly important in navigating their lives, such as health, food, clothes, shopping, work, study, culture, family, etc. Being able to discuss various topics has always been my interest. Not to brag myself but hearing them say "You're a good teacher" definitely makes my day. What makes my teaching so unique? After years of teaching English, I can tell that languages have a lot in common, and so does the way of teaching them. However, teaching people a new language definitely needs a lot of preparation and proper methods. They need vocabulary, which is a set of building blocks for creating phrases and eventually sentences. Meanwhile, prepositions and grammar are also necessary, though secondary. My teaching goal is to help my students acquire adequate ability to speak and get their ideas across using the vocabulary they have learnt. I focus MORE on the kind of language people commonly use daily, including colloquial terms and words with a lot of implied meanings, and LESS on what is prescribed by rules, which is usually suitable for academic purposes. Overview: 1. Customize your lessons that suit your interests/demands. 2. Lessons are practical and applicable in everyday use. 3. Passionate teacher with effective teaching methods. 4. Uplifting learning environment and opportunities to ask and practice. If you seek someone who can offer simple, practical, and creative ways of learning, I'm more than happy to be part of your journey.
